Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis Charitable Society

Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis Charitable Society is a Society Registered under The Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955 (Act No. X11 of 1955) vide registration No: EKM/TC 560/2017 on 13th day of September 2017 having its Registered office at Door No:3/55A, Kizhuppilly Buildings ,Pullikillam West Road, Chembumukku, Kakkanad, Cochin 682030.
The society was formed as a Charitable Organisation to extend humanitarian service to society by members of the Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis, a social service Club, a part of Rotary District 3201of Rotary International. The club has 62 members, all leaders and influencers spanning a diverse spectrum of professions. The members of the club entrusted the President, Secretary and other Managing Committee members to form the society as a separate entity for the charitable service to the needy in society.

FLOOD RELIEF ACTIVITIES

In August 2018, Rotary International District 3201 was the first to initiate the mobilisation of resources from all over the world through its counterparts to help the flood affected people of Kerala and Karnataka. With the help of local authorities and the Indian Navy, we started a control room for rescue operation and airlifting the affected people from all over the state. Members of the Society and Rotary club members were at the frontline to mobilise and distribute and other essential items to the people lodged in rescue camps.
Rotary International District 3201 continues their selfless service by associating with the Government of Kerala’s Rebuild Kerala programme by pledging to construct around one thousand houses to those who lost their homes in the devastating floods. This programme is named “PROJECT HOPE”. Rotary has handed over around three hundred houses as per schedule and the construction of remaining houses are undergoing construction at various locations. These compact houses are designed and constructed to withstand natural calamities.

The Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis Charitable Society has completed construction of two houses under the Programme “Project Hope” with a built-up area around 500 square feet with an outlay of Rs. 10.00 lakhs each for the flood affected families of Alangad Panchyat, Ernakulam District. Both the houses were handed over to the recipients by the Member of Parliament Shri. Hibi Eaden. The construction for another three houses are going on at Moothakunnam Village, Vadakkekara Panchayat which will be handed over November, 2019. The Society identified the recipients from the most deserving from among the families who lost their homes in 2018 with the help of Local Panchayat President and other Authorities. The houses are constructed on the recipients’ own land or on land acquired by them from the Government.

PRAATHAL

Started in 2013, the clubs silver jubilee year, PRAATHAL provides of free breakfast consisting of Idlis, Sambar and Tea to the patients and by standers of patients admitted in the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery every day, year-round except Sundays. Around two hundred people are benefitted from the PRAATHAL every day. PRAATHAL is funded by voluntary contributions from Society members and well wishers.

VILLAGE ADOPTION

Kothad Village, an island adjacent to Kochi has been adopted by our Rotary club. We run a PALAKVEEDU, for the senior citizens of the island. The first Pakalveedu in the State of Kerala, in association with the Rajagiri Social Service Scoiety has been active for the last several years.
As a part of the programme, the society is conducting regular Medical camps and free treatment, free mammography (Mobile Mamogram Unit of the Rotary District 3201) to the needy people in Kothad Panchayat. Several deserving students of the local school are supported by the society, right through to undergraduate education.
The society owns and operates a vocational centre at Udayamperoor, on the outskirts of Kochi. Regular medical camps are conducted at the centre.

SCHOOL ADOPTION

The Govt LP School at Ponnurunni in the heart of Kochi was on the verge of closure when the Rotary club adopted it more than 20 years ago. The school is now a thriving and award-winning institution with good toilets, computer lab, library, vegetable garden etc. all supported by Rotary over the years

The Society PAN no.is AADAR7776E. The Society has the 12 AA and 80 G Registration with the Income Tax Department for accepting contributions from public and corporates and we are under the process for the FCRA registration with Government of India.
